POLICIES

• PAYMENTS and DEPOSITS: To confirm your reservation, a 50%deposit--or full amount if your stay is one night--is usually held with your credit card when the reservation is made. You may pay by cash or checks upon your arrival, though charges can be kept on your card if you prefer.
• CANCELLATION: We will gladly refund your deposit if we can re-reserve your room, so please notify us as soon as possible! A $25 processing fee per room will apply to all cancellations.
• SMOKING: We have designated all of our guestrooms and indoor common areas smoke free. Conscientious smoking is welcome outdoors, away from non-smokers, on porches and decks, and on private balconies for those reserving Spruce or Maple.
• PHONE: In keeping with the tranquil atmosphere of Mountain Grove, our guestrooms do not have telephones. There is a house phone in the living room, which is available for use with calling cards. Most cell phones operate adequately.
• TELEVISION: The stereo, cable TV, DVD, and a few movies are all located in the living room.
• WEEKEND MINIMUMS: We usually request a minimum of two nights on weekends; please check with us; we can often make special arrangements. There is a $25 upcharge for one night stays if available.
• CHILDREN: Please call us. Although Mountain Grove is designed for the comfort and tranquility of adults, we welcome your well-supervised children who appreciate antiques and have command of their “inside voices”.
• PETS: Pets are often welcome with special arrangements. There is an additional fee of $40 for inside pets.

Mountain Grove Retreat Center is located:

• 45 minutes northwest of Rome, Georgia
• 1 hour south of Chattanooga, TN

• About 1.5 hours northeast of Birmingham, AL
• About 1.5 hours northwest of Atlanta, GA

• Less than 2 hours east of Huntsville, AL

• 3 hours southeast of Nashville, TN

• 9 hours from Orlando, FL

• 10 hours from Cleveland, OH

To Mountain Grove from Atlanta, Georgia or Interstate 75

Take I-75 North approximately one hour to exit # 306 (Adairsville- Hwy 140).
Go left (west) for 15.9 miles to Hwy 27 North.

Go right (north) for 13.7 miles into the beginning of the town of Summerville. Go through the first traffic light, get immediately into the left hand lane, and just at the BB&T Bank go left onto Hwy 48 West (don’t follow the main road right or you’ll very soon be in downtown Summerville).


On Hwy 48 go west for 10.9 miles. You’ll go through the very small town of Menlo, GA (continue forward through the four-way stop) and then continue straight up the mountain, still on Hwy 48. Just as you crest the hill there is a blinking yellow light. This is Cloudland and you are only ½ mile from Mountain Grove at 203 Elm St.
Turn left, south, at the blinking yellow light. The road immediately splits. Bear left. In less than ¼ mile turn left onto the second side street which is paved and marked Elm Street but sometimes easy to miss. (You’ll have gone too far if you go ¼ mile more and see the town park on the right.)

On Elm Street. you will pass only five houses; very soon after, the road goes downhill sharply. Mountain Grove (see our sign) is the first driveway on the left: 203 Elm Street. You're here! Come on down the circular drive and you’ll see our large, green, two-story house. Please parallel park to one side.

To Mountain Grove from Rome, Georgia

Take Hwy. 27 North into the beginning of the town of Summerville. Go through the first traffic light, get immediately into the left hand lane, and just at the BB&T Bank go left onto Hwy 48 West (don’t follow the main road right or you’ll very soon be in downtown Summerville).

To Mountain Grove from Birmingham, Alabama via I-59

Take Interstate 59 North, approximately 1.25 hours, 15 minutes past Ft. Payne, Alabama, to exit # 231 (Valley Head--this is Alabama Hwy 117.) Turn Right. Prepare to follow all signs to stay on Hwy 117 East, to Mentone, Alabama; there are a number of turns. You’ll wind through the town of Valley Head; please note that past the Chevron station the road splits and Hwy. 117 turns left, up the mountain.

In Mentone there are restaurants for lunch or dinner: The Mentone Springs Hotel and Magnolia Joe’s are on either side of Mentone’s blinking yellow light.
To Mountain Grove continue on Hwy 117 about 7 miles into Georgia where,
at the state line, the road name changes to Georgia Hwy 48 but this is still your road; keep going straight. After you pass two small gas station/grocery stores on the left, (which are our local suppliers for beer, wine, snacks and lotto tickets), in about one and a half miles there is a blinking yellow light marked Hwy 157 (and there is a fruit stand.)

This is Cloudland. Turn RIGHT. The road immediately splits. Bear left. You are ½ mile from Mountain Grove: 203 Elm St. In less than ¼ mile turn left onto Elm Street, the second side street, which is paved and marked with a street sign but sometimes easy to miss. To Mountain Grove from Chattanooga, TN or Nashville, TN

From Chattanooga take Interstate 24 West heading towards Nashville. In less than ten minutes I-24 and I-59 separate; go left, which is south, onto Interstate 59 and follow signs toward Birmingham, Alabama.

From Nashville take Interstate 24 East towards Birmingham (and Chattanooga) go approximately two hours through breathtaking country and mountains.
When Interstates 24 and 59 separate, abandon directions towards Chattanooga; take I-59 South, bear right, towards Birmingham.

Now, whether you’re coming from Chattanooga or Nashville the directions meld. Going south on I-59 you’ll soon pass the town of Trenton, GA, which is a good place for a large supermarket or fast food. Continue South on I-59, perhaps 15 minutes, to Alabama Exit # 231, marked Valley Head/Alabama Hwy 117; this is one of the first exits after you cross the Alabama state line. Turn left, East, onto Hwy 117 towards Valley Head, and prepare to follow Hwy 117 to Mentone, Alabama. There are a number of turns. Wind through the town of Valley Head, and please note that past the Chevron station the road splits and Hwy. 117 turns left, up the mountain, about three miles when suddenly you’ll be in Mentone; go straight through the blinking light and continue on Hwy 117. In about 6 miles (at the state line) Hwy 117 changes names and becomes Georgia Hwy 48, but this is still your road; keep going straight. You’ll immediately pass two small gas and grocery stores on the left, which are our local suppliers for beer, wine and snacks and gas. In about one and a half miles there is a blinking yellow light marked Hwy 157 (and there is a fruit stand.)
